Paddack Jumps Into School Superintendent Race
To the surprise of no one, Senator Susan Paddack, Ada Democrat, announced today she will seek her party's nomination for superintendent of public instruction.She, and three others who already have announced, seek to replace Superintendent Sandy Garrett, a Democrat, has said she will not seek a sixth term. Paddack was elected to the Senate in 2004 and was re-elected in 2008.
Before serving in the Senate, she was director of Local Education Foundation Outreach for the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence; she's also a former junior high science teacher. Others running for state superintendent include Republicans Janet Barresi and Shawn Hime. Randall Gorman, a Democrat who said he was running, followed Paddack's announcement by withdrawing and endorsing her candidacy.
